Tim Bryant worked in arts administration, was an ad agency partner, and then consulted in strategic brand positioning until a wreck launched him into early retirement and writing. His connection to the South has been lifelong—further cemented by living other places then returning. “Experiencing what is not the South tuned me in further to what she means most to me.”
He ditched cities (Chicago, Tampa, DC, etc.) and his sailboat to be with a small town girl in rural South Carolina where he keeps grapevines, peach trees, blackberries, and patch of banana trees.
The quietude draws him in to the land and self-reflection.
His first novel, Blue Rubber Pool, based on mid-life meltdown in a $200 kiddie pool, was first published in 2018. His second, set on a Carolina sea island, gets great reviews for its descriptions of the area’s natural beauty and oddball island ways. A third, set in Charleston, SC, is under contract with Unsolicited Press for May 2026.
All three, though not a series, share settings and people in the background, and explore themes of loss and resurrection in the South of today.
"As a writer, I appreciate the armadillo for its tough exterior protecting the soft stuff inside."
"On a bit of land surrounded by cows, when breezes stir pasture grass I still feel the sea all around me."
